Dan Hudson writes for The Times on independent investigations
5 September 2024
Writing in The Times, Seladore partner Dan Hudson argues that new laws extending the scope of corporate criminal liability will increase scrutiny of internal investigations, especially regarding financial crime. At the same time, the Serious Fraud Office’s budgetary constraints mean that it depends to a large part on the findings of these same internal probes.
However, corporate reliance on longstanding legal counsel raises concerns about the integrity and independence of investigations. Hudson advises businesses to avoid using investigators who could be perceived as lacking independence to ensure credibility and mitigate reputational risks.
